Bo Knows Football *and* Baseball

Bo Patterson
At 6-0 with wins over Minnesota of the Big Ten, Utah of the Pac 12 and Alabama Birmingham of Conference-USA, the Dartmouth baseball team is off to its best start since 1915.

Helping the Big Green to a 4-0 win over UAB in yesterday's second game was sophomore Bo Patterson, who went 2-for-4 at the plate and recorded six putouts in center field.

A wide receiver for the Dartmouth football team, Patterson led the Big Green as a freshman with 301 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Slowed by a nagging hamstring last fall, he saw limited action but seemed to be hitting his stride when he registered a 67-yard TD catch against Columbia. Unfortunately, he tweaked the hammy against the Lions and missed the next three games before returning for the finale at Princeton, where he caught four passes for 82 yards including a 54-yard touchdown.

Patterson and the Dartmouth baseball team return to action with an 11 a.m. game today against North Dakota State.

The Big Green has seven more games in Florida before its first scheduled home game against Siena on March 27. The Ivy League season kicks off three days later with a doubleheader at Penn and another the next day at Columbia.

To be honest, it doesn't feel much like baseball season right now. It was 4 degrees here on the mountain when Cooper the Wonder Dog went out with me to grab the morning paper. The forecast is calling for 6-12 inches of snow starting tonight.

Given the weather in these parts Dartmouth baseball coach Bob Whalen and his staff have enjoyed remarkable success. Since 2000 the Big Green has appeared in the Ivy League championship series eight times and advanced to the NCAA's in 2009 and 2010.
