Familiar Names

Cedric Calhoun, Dartmouth's defensive line coach from 2006-09 before spending the last three seasons at Florida International, has joined the staff at Stony Brook.

Calhoun will coach the defensive line for Stony Brook, which moves to the CAA this fall. Stony Brook has won four consecutive Big South Conference championships and has gone 19-7 over the past two years, winning a first-round NCAA playoff game each year.
Former Dartmouth offensive tackle-turned-General Electric chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt '78 will receive an honorary degree and be the keynote speaker at the University of Connecticut graduation in May. (Thanks for the link).
Another win for the Dartmouth baseball team and another solid game for wide receiver/outfielder Bo Patterson. In a 10-2 win over Vassar that improved the Big Green's record to 8-0, Patterson went 2-for-3 with a walk, scored two runs and stole a base. Patterson is batting .400 with three starts and seven appearances.

Dartmouth plays nationally ranked Division II  Slippery Rock (12-4) today.
Go figure but the NCAAhas already "postponed" several of its new recruiting rules. On hold are rules "deregulating who can perform recruiting tasks and what printed materials can be sent to prospects." From an NCAA story:
Suspending the rules means they will not become effective unless and until appropriate modifications are made.
The Alternate Root Magazine, dedicated to American Roots music ("an amalgam of traditional American music that draws from elements of folk, country, bluegrass, blues, gospel, jazz, ethnic and rock musical styles") has named former linebacker Gordy Quist's '02 Band of Heathens as No. 1 in the nation's "Top 50 Bands Right Now!" Here's The Alternate Root writeup:
#1 Band of Heathens – The number one spot was the easiest to place. Band of Heathens epitomize Indie, building their band business from the ground up and keeping everything in-house. What began as a songwriters residency at Momo’s in the group’s home base of Austin, the Band of Heathens have grown to release two live early career discs, from Momo’s and Antone’s. Their music combines rock, soul, Americana, alt Country, blues and folk, sometimes within the space off a song. They have three studio albums under their collective belts and recently released the two-disc live DVD of Denver shows.
The BOH is playing in The Woodlands, Texas tonight. Mrs. BGA and I will be seeing them again in Northampton, Mass., on April 5 and they are in Boston the next night. They will be in Fairfield, Conn. on April 7 and New York City on April 9. Find the full tour schedule here.

Here's a sweet song called Polaroid with Gordy singing lead:

This is an acoustic version of the Heathen's "Jackson Station" introduced by Gordy:
