Spring football starts in two days in these parts and that can mean just one thing.

Golf?

Mark Saturday, June 15 for the 16th Annual Dartmouth Football Golf Classic. (Editor's note: It's a great day but I've seen these guys swing a club. Golf Classic might be stretching it ;-).

The festivities will begin with a Friends of Football meeting at the newly renovated Hanover Inn at 9:15 a.m. Lunch is set for 11 a.m. under the tent at Hanover Country Club. The stick swinging begins at 12:30 with a shotgun start. Cocktails, dinner, a raffle and the always popular (and frequently hilarious) auction will follow.

Expected in town will be reunion classes from 1968, '69, '78, '83, '88, '97, '99 and 2008.

A brochure for the Classic can be downloaded here.

Because of the reworking of Dartmouth's academic calendar, exams conflicted with the final week of the season last fall. One of the casualties was the program's annual breakup banquet. Rescheduled as the kickoff for spring ball, it will be held today. Look for awards and news out of the event here tomorrow.
Remember, the Dartmouth-Cornell baseball game will be broadcast today on Fox College Sports. The first game to be televised nationally from Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park pits the teams that played in the Ivy League Championship Series last spring and starts at noon. Check your local listings for the channel. (I believe it is 171 in the Upper Valley.)

Eric Frede will do play-by-play with Wayne Young '72 handling color. In addition to serving as a football captain at Dartmouth, Young was a member of the Big Green team that went to Omaha for the College World Series in 1970 behind future major league pitchers Pete Broberg and Chuck Seelbach.
