Set For Star Game

Incoming freshman Charlie Miller of Totino-Grace High School in Minnesota has been chosen to play in the 40th Annual Minnesota Football Coaches Association High School All-Star Game on June 29. From a Star Tribune story:
Miller, a wide receiver/defensive back, was the latest in a long line of smart and fast Eagles’ players who could make big plays at various positions.

Mic'd up with Pete Lembo:

A Dartmouth assistant coach from 1994-96, Pete Lembo has gone on to enjoy a terrific head coaching career. He went 44-14 in five years at Lehigh, took over a struggling Elon program and after a 5-6 record the first  year went 30-16 over the next four, and after a 6-6 first year at Ball State went 9-4 last  year. Lembo is 94-46 in 12 years as a head coach . . . and he still finds the time to return emails and phone calls from old friends ;-)
Week 5 opponent Bucknell wraps up spring drills with its spring game at 7:30 Saturday night at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. (link)

Week 1 opponent Butler plays its spring game Saturday morning at 10:30 at the Butler Bowl. From a release: "The Bulldogs' roster has been split into two teams for the spring game, which will be played in four 12-minute quarters.  Normal football rules and scoring will apply."

For both schools the spring game will cap the 15 allowable sessions of offseason practice for FCS teams. Ivy League schools are limited to 12. While it's not as much as the rest of the nation is allowed, the spring practice is a huge improvement over the way it was until the early '90s. Before then, the Ivies were allowed just one day, which was used for uniform fitting, a walk-through of some sort and for media purposes. The change in spring football is explained briefly in this Ivy League history timeline.
NFL Films has pulled together a  five-minute tribute to Pat Summerall, best-known by many as a broadcaster but also an NFL player for a decade. He died earlier this week at age 82. Click here to watch the video.

The Dallas Morning News had a fine story about Summerall here.
