Catching Up

The Dartmouth daily has a game story and a Q&A with tailback Dominick Pierre. The D also has a story headlined Dartmouth Hits Back Against Concussions that includes this:
The team became the first NCAA football program to eliminate tackling from practices.
To be sure, Dartmouth was in the first wave of NCAA programs to eliminate or cut down tackling.
Perhaps the first NCAA football program to completely eliminate tackling from practice was St. John's of Collegeville, Minn., which banned tackling a long time ago under legendary coach John Gagliardi as the New York Times wrote.
With the Columbia game up next, it's as good a time as any to revisit the ESPN.com story about Lion freshman quarterback Kelly Hilinski and his motivation to help in the fight against ALS. Hilinksi has taken over as the Lions' starting QB with the injury to Stanford transfer Brett Nottingham. (Thanks for the reminder about the story.)
