How Dartmouth Opponents Fared Saturday

A look at how opponents fared yesterday with a pithy thought or two about each one . . .

Princeton 53, Columbia 7
The Tigers had 629 yards of offense and 32 first downs. Columbia had 136 and five first downs. That says more about Columbia than Princeton . . . and it says a lot about Princeton.

Yale 24, Cal Poly 10
Yale had beaten two struggling teams before overpowering No. 19 Cal Poly on the road. If their defense is really 10 points good, the Bulldogs are going to be a handful.

Harvard 41, Holy Cross 35 (3 ot)
Either Holy Cross is as good as it looked last week or Harvard isn't as good as people expected. You make the call in a few weeks.

Colgate 41, Cornell 20
'Gate outscored Cornell, 24-0, in the second half after its star quarterback was hurt. New coach, same old Cornell with 351 passing yards, 52 rushing and no defense.

Brown 31, Rhode Island 14
This is the only remaining Ivy vs. its state school game and it's easy to see why Brown keeps it on the schedule. Not sure why Rhody does.

Lafayette 31, Bucknell 7
Story and stats
Previously winless Lafayette limited Bucknell to 80 yards of total offense. That is not a typo. Bucknell was playing without its starting QB but c'mon . . .

Butler 35, Stetson 15
Box score
First-year program Stetson lost to Pioneer Football League's San Diego last week, 59-0, so the only real surprise is that this one wasn't more lopsided. It was a one-possession game until late in the third.
