More Shutout Trivia

Following up on yesterday's posting about Dartmouth's last shutout of each Ivy League opponent, here is the last time each Ivy League opponent shut out the Big Green, starting with the most recent:
Yale – Oct. 8, 2011, 30-0
Harvard – Oct. 28, 2006, 28-0
Penn – Nov. 19, 2005, 30-0
Princeton – Oct. 2, 2004, 35-0
Brown – Nov. 14, 1987, 19-0
Cornell – Nov. 18, 1950, 24-0
Columbia, Nov. 8, 1947, 15-0
Since the last shutout by Dartmouth the Big Green has whitewashed the Lions 15 times.
For Dartmouth football fans of the late 1980s there's a familiar name on the Big Green women's basketball team. Recruited to throw the javelin on the track team, Moriah Morton is spending the winter as a walk-on guard with the women's basketball team. The 5-foot-8 Morton, who grew up in nearby Lebanon, is the daughter of former wide receiver Craig Morton '89. There's a lengthy story about Moriah's recruiting here (and a bio of her brother, Micah, who played a little football and ran track at Richmond here).

Certainly among the most exciting players I ever saw at Dartmouth, Craig Morton averaged a whopping 24.2 yards per catch with 10 touchdown receptions as a sophomore. He's still the only receiver in the all-time Dartmouth top-25 for season catches to average more than 20 yards per catch. He's the Big Green's all-time leader for receiving yards with 2,605 yards on 138 catches, an average of 18.9 yards, and his 19 touchdown catches are second in school annals to Casey Cramer's 21. Morton, who was invited to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, played in NFL Europe before entering the ministry.

A couple of former Dartmouth coaches advanced in the NCAA football playoffs yesterday.

John Lyons, the Big Green head coach between Buddy Teevens' stints in Hanover and now the defensive coordinator at New Hampshire, helped the Wildcats eliminate fifth-seed Maine in the second round, 41-27. LINK UNH will now visit sixth-seed Southeastern Louisiana.

Joe Moglia, a Dartmouth defensive assistant under Joe Yukica, wrote another chapter in his saga of going from CEO of TD Ameritrade to successful head coach by leading Coastal Carolina to a 42-35 win at Montana. LINK

Coastal now plays two-time defending national champ North Dakota State.

From a Nov. 22 USA Today story about Moglia and his unlikely coaching journey:
In Moglia's mind, every experience and skill he had accumulated in the 25 years since leaving a low-paying job as Dartmouth's defensive coordinator should have made him even more attractive as a coaching candidate and proverbial leader of young men. But as he soon discovered after stepping down as TD Ameritrade's CEO to pursue college coaching jobs, athletics directors and school presidents either dismissed him completely or viewed him as a risk not worth taking.
Green Alert Take: Gotta think the Ivy schools who sniffed around Moglia and then turned up their noses might have made a mistake.
It's probably a long shot, but it could happen. Should UNH and Coastal win this week, two coaches who spent a lot of hours on Memorial Field will be on opposite sidelines in the national semifinals.

As for current Ivy League coaches, they'll be, you guessed it, "just watching."
