Looking Ahead

With spring football beginning next month, I pulled up the Dartmouth roster, updated players to their fall class, and deleted graduating seniors. What's left is the collection of players who could/should be here in the spring.

A few things to keep in mind:

Heights and weights have not been updated from last year's roster. With graduation making favorite numbers available some numbers will change. Classes were updated using find-and-replace and I think I caught most of the mistakes but likely missed a few. (Editor's note: Thanks for pointing out corrections.) While there well may be several players listed who don't return, all of these players should be eligible to play next fall as long as they are in good academic standing. Positions are per last year. There's one fifth-year senior included who has indicated he will be returning, but could be at least one more. All that said, caveat emptor.

* Fifth-year senior
Given well-publicized problems stemming from his numerous concussions, I found it interesting when it was announced that former Brown wide receiver and NFL special teams all-pro Sean Morey accepted the position as sprint football coach at Princeton. Morey addressed the issue in a  New Jersey.com story this week. He's quoted this way:
“Am I conflicted? Yes. I know all too well the possibilities of what certain injuries can do to you. I have to be acutely aware of the risks and what my role is as a coach, and I feel as a coach I want to educate my players.
“I want to empower them. I want to modify practices in the way we play the game to minimize and mitigate the risks, make sure players are honest with the doctors and the doctors are being vigilant in terms of keeping an eye on the field and identifying injuries when they occur, so they can manage them properly.

It was a brisk 5-below this morning up on the mountain. Can spring be far behind?

Um, apparently.
