One of the best parts of the annual Friends of Dartmouth Football outing each June is the auction under the tent toward the end of the evening. I will always remember former quarterback Brian Mann as emcee goading Jay Fiedler into buying a large, old map that he didn't really want and Fiedler giving as good as he got with a few choice words about an Arena Football jersey that Mann had donated. It was all in good fun to raise money to support Dartmouth football.

Dartmouth has added an online auction as a new component to the Friends fundraiser this year and there are some pretty nifty items up for bid. You can look the auction over and make bids here.

Here are items up for bid (click to enlarge – at least on a Mac ;-)

Dartmouth held its annual Celebration of Athletic Excellence event earlier this week and to the surprise of no one, the big winner was All-America runner Abbey D'Agostino. She was awarded the Kenneth Archibald Prize as “the member of the graduating class who has been four years in attendance, who has been the best all-around athlete, regard also being had to moral worth and high standing in scholarship." And she took home the Class of 1976 award as the most outstanding female athlete of the year.

(Although it isn't a Dartmouth award, D'Agostino also was honored for winning the Honda Award for Women's Cross Country as the top individual runner in the nation last fall.)

Claiming the Alfred E. Watson Trophy as the outstanding male athlete was senior Will Geoghegan of the cross country and track teams.
