Saturday Stuff

Dartmouth Now reports that the college accepted 483 of 1,859 early decision applicants this year. Applications were up 10.7 percent over a year ago.

The hope is to be able to post the early decision football list late next week or early the next, so be sure to check back.
In his blog post about whether a judge can/should/will intercede regarding a disputed football playoff game in Oklahoma, local attorney Charlie Buttrey references the famed Dartmouth-Cornell 5th down game. Check out the post HERE.
One of the signs you are a great football team is the ability to beat a very good team without being at your best. At least the University of New Hampshire has to hope so. Dropping passes like they write books about and largely unable to run the ball, No. 1 UNH still managed to defeat eighth-seeded Chattanooga, 35-30, last night in the FCS playoffs.

With the win UNH advances to the national semifinals for the second year in a row and will now face the winner of Saturday's quarterfinal between fourth-seeded Eastern Washington and fifth-seeded Illinois State. New Hampshire (12-1) will host that game in Durham. Read about last night's game HERE.
I'll be at cross purposes watching the Army-Navy game this afternoon. My grandfather came east from Nevada to attend the Naval Academy, so I am predisposed to root for Navy. I remember being told my grandfather would turn off his hearing aid when he was watching the game and Navy was losing. My father was a Navy man as well, so there was a lot of "Gooooo Navy . . .  Beeeeeat Army" growing up. But it's just so hard to see Army's Cadets keep losing the biggest game they will ever play, so I may very quietly be rooting for Army. Just don't tell anyone ;-)

Here are a few pictures I shot of the Memorial Field project yesterday. Click the photos (and maybe click them again) to supersize. There's some interesting detail when  you enlarge them.

The arches stand out more without the grandstand behind them.
The press box, which sat above the entry arch, is gone.
It would seem judging by this norther corner that the ivy may survive.
This is what is left of the 50-yard line seats. The white wall and door are part of the old press box.
More than one person has said the stadium looks "bombed out."
