Blades Of Glory?

Dartmouth football started a "Skate With a Date" night a few years ago and a good 50 or 60 players and dates turned out this year, with a nice representation of women's soccer and women's lacrosse players joining the football players. In addition to skating on Occum Pond at the edge of campus, the evening included a roaring fire, hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows.

A former Big Green ice hockey player, Dartmouth football coach Buddy Teevens initiated "Skate With a Date" as a night of wholesome, old-fashioned fun.

Among those who got on the ice for the very first time was Davaron Stockman, AKA Diesel, the 345-pound freshman defensive lineman !
Dartmouth defensive line coach Duane Brooks was chosen from the audience for the half-court promotion at the women's basketball game Friday night against Penn. After leaving his first attempt woefully short, Brooks cranked it up on his second shot and banked in a basket that really got the crowd roaring.

Knowing a good thing when they saw one, the promotions folks decided to see if Brooks had any more magic left last night when undefeated Princeton game to town. When Brooks air-balled his two allotted shots he was given a bonus opportunity that hit the backboard above the rim but caromed off iron.
On Super Sunday the Boston Globe does a nice turn on Seahawks' quarterback Russell Wilson that again touches on the impact of his last father Harry, a former Dartmouth football and basketball player. (LINK)
Speaking of fathers and sons and the Super Bowl, the Boston Globe has a story about Jonathan Kraft, son of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. From the story (LINK):
To Kraft’s friends, it is accepted that coaching his children’s athletic teams ranks among his highest priorities. He has spent 15 years coaching them in football, soccer, basketball, and lacrosse, beginning with five years as the offensive coordinator for the Brookline/Jamaica Plain Pop Warner Patriots.
Kraft’s oldest child, Harry, was the Pop Warner quarterback. Harry went on to star at Belmont Hill and has been recruited to play next year at Dartmouth.
