Mountain Men

9 a.m. update: Just one practice today, at 2 p.m.

This is how last night's BGA Premium entry began:
In the first few years of his second stint at Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens was able to send his first-year football players off on the school's famed DOC freshman trips in several waves. A change in the school’s academic calendar has made that much harder.
To give his players a taste of what so many of their classmates enjoy (or in some cases don’t enjoy ;-) he’s taken to bringing the freshmen on a hike up the Appalachian Trail at the Dartmouth Skiway in nearby Lyme.
Here are just a few of the photos I shot and posted from the hike up to Holt's Ledge as well as a video of part of an inspiring address to the team by Steven Spaulding, a former Army football player and Airborne Ranger who is the Dartmouth Peak Performance assistant athletic director for leadership. (I encourage you to click through and watch the short video.

I haven't done the digging myself but a loyal BGA subscriber shares the news that 13 former Ivy League players made NFL opening-day rosters. There were 19 in camps, two are on some form of injured reserve and four were cut. Look for the Ivy League to dig up the final tally soon.

Harvard's Ryan Fitzpatrick - Jets
Princeton's Caraun Reid - Lions
Harvard's Nick Easton - 49ers
Brown's Zak DeOssie - Giants
Harvard's Desmond Bryant - Browns
Yale's Tyler Varga - Colts
Cornell's JC Tretter - Packers
Harvard's Kyle Juszczyk - Ravens
Columbia's Jeff Adams  - Texans
Penn's Brandon Copeland - Lions
Columbia's Josh Martin - Chiefs
Cornell's Bryan Walters - Jaguars

Also Brown's AJ Cruz is injured with the Bears and Brown's James Develin injured with the Patriots.
From the Dartmouth Alumni website regarding the football team's opener at Georgetown (italics are mine):
All tickets are general admission and sold exclusively through Georgetown either online, which requires registration, or by calling (202) 687-4692, Ext 7. Game-day purchases at the gate will be available only if the event is not sold out beforehand. However, we encourage you to quickly purchase tickets as availability is limited and there is high demand.
Green Alert Take: While you shouldn't get excited about a huge crowd you don't want to get shut out. Georgetown's Multi-Sport Field seats just 2,500.
More NFL teams are sending scouts to Hanover this week, and a couple of notable media outlets will be in town to film the Mobile Virtual Player. Stay tuned.
