Something For Your Thursday

Talking this week about the Mobile Virtual Player (which may be featured on 60 Minutes this Sunday or next), Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens mentioned the large number of players on his team studying engineering. To be sure, former defensive lineman-turned-engineer Elliot Kastler is one of the prime movers behind the MVP.

All that said, here's an oldie-but-goodie for a slow Thursday . . .

A loyal reader has sent along a link to a Hero Sports posting headlined, Sniff, Sniff … I Wish Ivy League Teams Made FCS Playoffs. From the story:
Harvard recruits well at this level. In fact, arguably the best current FCS commitment to any school is 3-star Harvard LB recruit Zachary Kastenhuber, who was chased by Syracuse, UConn and several other Power Five conference schools. As it stands right now, he will never get to experience the postseason, either in a bowl game or FCS playoff.
“I would love to participate in the FCS playoffs,” Kastenhuber told HERO Sports Tuesday morning. “I feel like the Ivy League is not fairly represented and it would be a great opportunity to demonstrate our level of talent.”
Brown's game notes for Saturday have been posted HERE.
An old friend from down Princeton way who enjoyed the broadcast of the Dartmouth-Harvard game two weeks ago has tried to put the game in perspective. He wrote:
TigerBlog watched the game, and it was a great one. He loves games like that, where yards and points are hard to come by. Dartmouth had a great, epic, one-for-the-ages goal line stand early in the fourth quarter, and it was what football in its purest form is supposed to be.
The game matched two 6-0 teams, and obviously the winner was going to have a huge inside track to the Ivy title. As TB said, the game was great - but he isn't ready to anoint it as the greatest game the Ivy League has seen in a long time.
The headline for his posting?  The Best Ivy League Football Game Since ... Two Years Ago

Wonder what his nominees are for greatest Ivy League game in a long time? Read the full column HERE.
And finally, I sent out an email yesterday using the Hamilton "Ham" Porter quote from the movie The Sandlot:
"You're killing me Smalls."
Apropos of nothing (told you at the top it's a slow day) here's the clip:
