Spring (?) Practice Kicks Off

It was cold and got colder at Dartmouth's first spring practice last evening, but the session was eventful as the Big Green begins the process of replacing a laundry list of All-Ivy League performers. Read all about it on BGA Premium, starting as you might expect with the battle to replace Dalyn Williams at quarterback.

Perhaps the most interesting nugget coming out of a conversation with Coach Buddy Teevens after practice was this: Media coverage of the Ivy League's ban on tackling in practice fanned on a key point.

As it turns out, the much-ballyhooed Ivy League ban is on tackling during the season only. Ivy teams are allowed to tackle during the spring, and will be allowed to tackle throughout the preseason.

Dartmouth, however, will continue its policy of not tackling except in games.

A few shots I snapped from the first practice (and you can click on them to enlarge):

WCAX TV out of Burlington, Vt., did a terrific 2 1/2-minute report on the celebration of 150 years of Dartmouth baseball over the weekend. The video includes interviews with former big leaguer pitchers Mike Remlinger and Jim Beattie among others. To watch the video, CLICK HERE.
