Scores and a few pithy thoughts on games involving Dartmouth opponents:
Columbia 34, Penn 31 (OT)
It is one thing for Columbia to beat Penn. It's another thing entirely for the Lions to come back from 14-0 and 21-7 down (thanks to a pick six) and beat a nemesis in overtime. Penn is not what it was . . . but neither is Columbia.
Princeton 53, Brown 0
Don't sleep on Princeton, which beat the Bears every which way but loose with Ivy sprint medalist Charlie Volker running 96 yards for one of his four touchdowns.
Harvard 38, Lafayette 10
When was the last time you saw Harvard throw for 87 yards in a game? Something strange is going on in Cambridge where coach Tim Murphy has been playing freshman quarterback Jake Smith over returning fifth-year starter Joe Viviano.
Yale 32, Holy Cross 0
The Bulldogs were the only team Dartmouth has beaten that won yesterday. Then again, someone had to win between Yale and Holy Cross. Speaking of strange things happening at quarterback, the Crusaders' Peter Pujals was just 10-of-22 for 89 yards passing and ran for minus-31 yards.
Bucknell 26, Cornell 18
Maybe Cornell's win over Harvard a week before says more about Harvard than about Cornell.
Stetson 28, Davidson 17
Don't look now but the Hatters are on a winning streak. Of course, one of the teams they have beaten lost yesterday by a 53-0 score and the other one is ranked No. 124 of 124 FCS teams by Massey.
