Dartmouth corner Isiah Swann is already the STATS national defensive player of the week. Now he's up for the Hero Sports defensive player of the week in a popular vote. Currently Columbia's Daniel DeLorenzi (2.5 sacks and a forced fumble against Georgetown) is the leader. Swann, who had three interceptions in the first half to pace a Dartmouth defense that did not allow a first down for three quarters is in fifth place. Vote in the poll HERE.

KYW Radio in Philly has posted a brief preview of the Dartmouth-Penn game (LINK) that includes this from Penn coach Ray Priore about the Big Green:"They are really, really playing sound defense. They really are, all the way around. No big plays. Offensively, very, very efficient with the football. Running game, passing game, combinations, utilizing their personnel well."An aside: When I was interim sports editor at the Valley News and used to drive in to the paper at 4:30 in the morning or so, KYW from all the way down in Pennsylvania was one of the only stations that came in clear in the car radio. Conversely, when I was a sports editor at a paper in central Pennsylvania one of the only stations that came in clear on the car radio at that early hour was WBZ out of Boston. Always got a kick out of that ;-)

The Harvard Crimson has a column about the Ivy League and its forced abstention from the NCAA playoffs. From the column:(I)f the Ivy League were to ever consider entering the playoff realm, it would have to weigh the good with the bad. However, in an age of increasing visibility and talent level within the league, I believe it must consider breaking with tradition and taking the postseason plunge.
