The Dartmouth has a story about the completion of the indoor practice facility which it refers to on second reference as the IPF. (LINK)
Green Alert Take: At some point there will probably be a donor's name associated with the facility and the abbreviation IPF will mercifully go away. In the meantime I'm taking suggestions for a nickname that doesn't sound like sunscreen. Anyone?

Speaking of nicknames, The D also has a column under the headline, Thinking About Sports: Dartmouth needs a new nickname, and I’ve got one in mind. (LINK)
Green Alert Take: I read the story down hoping for a good suggestion instead of a joke. OK, I'll bring back two I've offered up in the past. The North Stars (shortened to Stars) and the BackPackers (shortened in most cases to the Packers). The first plays off Dartmouth's geographic location and the second off the school's outdoor tradition and proximity to the Appalachian Trail.

Somehow I managed to miss a story on Dartmouth offensive lineman Zach Sammartino in advance of the NFL Draft on a site called Wrestle Zone. (LINK) This side-by-side with Zach and his great uncle Bruno, the legendary wrestler, is fabulous:
Green Alert Take: While his Twitter feed suggests Zach is still hoping for that elusive shot at the NFL if it doesn't work out he would be a natural fit to play Bruno on the silver screen ;-)

Elsewhere in the Ivy League, Columbia is getting yet another transfer quarterback from the FBS ranks. Following in the tracks of Brett Nottingham, who traded Stanford for Columbia and Skyler Mornhinweg, who left the University of Florida for New York City, is Joe Green, heading east from San Diego State after his redshirt freshman year with the Aztecs. Green, who missed is freshman season after breaking his collarbone and was fourth on the San Diego State depth chart heading into spring ball, Tweeted his intentions HERE.
A onetime Harvard commit, Green seemed almost destined for the Big Apple per a story in the San Diego Union-Tribune after he entered the transfer portal. From the story (LINK):
“Since about the age of 8, when my dad and I talked, it’s either been about stocks or football,” Green said. “I’ve always been kind of an analytical guy. I’m very much a thinker from that aspect. Just something about Wall Street that I want to go for in my life."The 6-foot-4, 200-pound QB from Sammamish, Wash., threw for 2,579 yards and 19 touchdowns with three interceptions as a senior at Skyline High School, completing 62 percent of his attempts. He also ran for 218 yards and a team-best four touchdowns.

An ominous quote from the Big 12 commissioner (LINK):“We will be very, very lucky to start on Labor Day weekend and get through the football season without disruptions."'

EXTRA POINTSomething a little different today. A friend of BGA emailed yesterday that he started to watch the "Community Conversation" with Dartmouth Provost Joseph Helble but closed it down when he realized it ran a full hour. Can't say as I can blame him since I wasn't about to give it a full hour of my day either. Given that I was posting the video here my concern was whether the provost said anything about football or athletics in general. I tried "scrubbing" through the video but that can be an arduous process.
To find what Helble said about sports (hint: not much) I did what I suggested to the BGA reader. This is what I emailed him:
Here’s a trick. If you click on the video to watch it on the YouTube platform there are three dots directly above the red box that says “Subscribe.” Click on those dots and it will give you the opportunity to open an automated transcript.
While the transcript doesn’t get everything right, you can search it or scroll through it to find something of interest. (I searched on the word “Sports.”) When you find something of interest, click on the text in the transcript and it will advance YouTube to that part of the video. Pretty handy and it works across YouTube.
