Generations of Dartmouth football players got to know Dr. John Turco during his years as team physician. Turco, who earned the Distinguished American Award from the New Hampshire Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame in 2008, was honored with the college's 2023 Social Justice Awards – Lifetime Achievement award. It's still a few weeks away but the annual camp run by the first family of football will have a different feel this year. From a TV report headlined Elite high school and college quarterbacks ready to descend on Thibodaux for the Manning Passing Academy finishes this way (LINK):

Archie and Buddy Teevens started the MPA 27 years ago. This will be the first year Teevens will not attend. The Dartmouth coach is recovering from bicycle accident.

The MPA will run from June 22-25.

Athlon sports predicts the FCS playoff field next fall and includes one Dartmouth opponent and two old friends. The magazine has Week One Dartmouth opponent New Hampshire making it as an at-large pick, Holy Cross advancing as Patriot League champion and William & Mary, where former Big Green quarterback Brian Mann '02 runs the show as athletic director, earning a berth as the CAA champion. The Dartmouth has a fond remembrance of John Skewes '51, Dartmouth's former director of business affairs and a huge Big Green football fan. From the story (LINK):

Dartmouth was the only school applied to, and he was “semi-recruited” to play football by backfield coach Milton Piepul, according to Skewes’ interview. While in college, Skewes majored in history and founded Dartmouth’s first rugby team.

Outside of football, a Los Angeles Times story headlined,  Long before joining the Dodgers, family ties almost led Jason Heyward to UCLA includes this about his father, Eugene (LINK):

After spending his early childhood in South Carolina, Eugene lived with his uncle in Los Angeles as a teenager, finishing high school there before going off to play basketball at Dartmouth College (where he met Heyward’s mother, Laura).

Eugene Heyward lettered three times at Dartmouth before graduating in 1981.

EXTRA POINT
Mrs. BGA and I got jabbed yesterday with the latest COVID vaccine. After paying the price for crowing about how I had no reaction to one of the earlier vaccines only to get floored by it several hours later, I kept my yap shut this time. Twenty-four hours later all I have is a slight bruise where the needle went in. Lesson learned.
