Remember Him?

Former Dartmouth nickel John Pupel '22 didn't see much action a year ago as a grad transfer at Boston College, appearing in just four games, mostly on special teams. It would appear that may change in his second season with the Eagles. BC head coach Jeff Hafley, quoted in a story headlined, Ivy League transfers have been impressing early at Boston College (LINK):

“John Pupel is probably a name nobody is talking about. John’s going to make a run to be a starter. He’s smart. he’s tough. He’s reliable. He has an edge to him. He’s a good football player, man, he’s a really good football player and he keeps showing up. I’d be foolish not to mention him, he’s got a chance.”

And this from Alex Washington, the Harvard corner also grad transferring to BC:

“He’s a dog. He is a dog and he likes to work. He’s an Ivy League guy like myself and came here with not a lot of expectations, but he takes that with pride and as an opportunity. He plays fearless, he plays brave, he plays like a dog. That’s the best way to describe it. He works his butt off and I’m really excited to see what he does on Saturdays.”

People Magazine has a lengthy story headlined All About Russell Wilson's Parents Harrison Wilson III and Tammy Wilson that includes this (LINK):

Harrison attended Dartmouth College and was part of the class of 1977. He was the second of his four siblings to attend the Ivy League school; his brother Benjamin attended in 1973, followed by John in 1980 and Richard in 1985.

During his four years in college, Harrison was a receiver and split end on the football team. According to Benjamin, Harrison and Russell's football skills are incredibly similar.

“In addition to looking very much alike, they run alike, their mannerisms and their facial expressions are similar, their manner of speaking is similar. So it’s really striking,” he said in a 2014 interview with the school.

And this:

In 1976, Harrison made the First Team All-Ivy and broke a 23-year-old team record for receiving yards. He went on to try out for the San Diego Chargers in 1980 and played throughout the preseason, but was cut later that year.

At Dartmouth, he also played shortstop and third base on the baseball team, where he excelled as a defensive player.

EXTRA POINT
Our EV went in for inspection yesterday and we learned an important lesson. You need to use the brakes in a car like this once in a while.

Huh?

See, our Chevy Bolt EV has what is called one-pedal driving wherein the car slows and stops simply by taking your foot off the accelerator. As a conservative driver, I might use the brakes just one time in the half hour or so drive to campus. Even in downtown Hanover with cars pulling out of parking spots in front of me on Main Street and Dartmouth students mindlessly crossing the road, I usually don't need to touch the brakes. The car stops smoothly but quickly by letting up on the "juice" pedal.

But here's the problem. When you don't use the brakes, they tend to rust. And that's exactly what happened to the brakes in my car. The solution per the mechanic at the dealer: Disengage the "one-pedal" functionality once or twice a day and use the brakes as you would in any other car before turning one-pedal driving on again.

There's your EV lesson for the day.
