Portal Musings

With more than 1,000 players reportedly entering the transfer portal yesterday – more than 7 percent of all DI football players if you can believe it – keeping up with who is in the portal and what schools are offering them is challenging to say the least.

The latest Dartmouth player I've noticed who has tossed his hat in the portal ring is senior wide receiver Jarmone Sutherland.

Among the latest offers received by Big Green players are defensive lineman Charles Looes hearing from Rice and Georgia State, fellow D-lineman Hank Knez adding Samford, Elon, Murray State and Illinois State to his growing list and defensive back Cam Maddox fielding an offer from Buffalo.

A reminder that players who were fifth-year seniors last fall have exhausted their Ivy League eligibility but may have another year elsewhere. True seniors last fall can return to Dartmouth or have one or two years of eligibility elsewhere.

Max Brosmer, the New Hampshire quarterback Dartmouth has faced several times, is one of three players invited to the announcement of the Walter Payton Award, given to the national offensive player of the year in the FCS. He's joined by fellow QB Mark Gronowski of South Dakota State and running back Jaden Shirden of Monmouth.

Brosmer, by the way, has announced his commitment to Minnesota as a grad transfer.

EXTRA POINT
The internet is a pretty effective time waster. Watching a football game I thought I noticed change in the eponymous gecko's voice in one of those insurance commercials. For some reason I Googled that and while I did not confirm a voice change in that particular commercial, I did discover something else. The gecko's lines in the very first of the commercial series were voiced by Kelsey Grammer, Frasier himself. The things you learn stopping by this electronic precinct each day.  ;-)
