One More Day

While watching Dartmouth practice yesterday in advance of talking to coach Sammy McCorkle for tonight's Columbia preview on BGA Overtime, I noticed I wasn't the only one watching practice! You might not be able to tell by looking at the photo below without blowing it up but check out the window on the right. Click the photo once or twice to expand it to see who's keeping an eye on things.

FCS guru Craig Haley of STATS Perform has a piece headlined FCS Football Week 9 Preview: October Always Ends With Frights in Conference that features the Dartmouth-Columbia game. Haley writes (LINK):

Ivy League co-leader Dartmouth (5-0) – one of two unbeaten FCS teams along with No. 2 Montana State (8-0) – is just scraping by opponents, given its last four wins are by a combined 10 points. But the No. 22 Big Green also can consider it as clutch play under second-year Sammy Corkle, having rallied from fourth-quarter deficits in three of those wins. They’ll hope to escape from New York with first place after taking on Columbia (4-1, 2-0). While Dartmouth has a record 21 Ivy titles, Columbia has the fewest with just one in 1961, but first-year coach Jon Poppe has the Lions in contention.

Columbia's game notes have been posted HERE and they are worth a look. Lots of good nuggets.

Metropolitan area alumni of a certain age may appreciate the shift back to a more traditional uniform look for Saturday's game:

Dartmouth offensive guard Kyle Brown has been back in action for only three games but he's still fourth-rated nationally at his position in the FCS by the analytics company PFF (Pro Football Focus).

Other Ivy Leaguers ranked  in the top-five nationally by PFF – which purports to grade every position on every snap for every team in the country –  are Harvard corner Gavin Shipman (first) and Yale safety Joshua Tarver (third).

Find the full PFF top-five at each position HERE.

EXTRA POINT
With the World Series starting here's something a little different that popped up on my computer a couple of days ago:

Given the statute of limitations I can now come clean. I think it was the summer between 7th and 8th grade that The King and his Court with Eddie Feigner came to our town and a friend and I slid under a fence to watch them play without buying a ticket. I don't remember anything about the game but I do  clearly remember us shimmying under the fence and both of us having tell-tale dirt marks on the back of our T-shirts.
