Worth A Look

With Eject Adele a finalist for the Bushnell Cup as the Ivy League's defensive player of the year, here's a look at his 2024 season highlights:

Adele is the perfect example of a player who patiently waited his turn and made the most of it when it came about. A year ago he finished with just 10 tackles. This year? He had 54 stops including six sacks and 12 for a loss.

#

Adele is in the portal as a potential grad transfer where he has reported offers from UTEP, East Tennessee, Chattanooga, New Hampshire, Samford and Towson.

Defensive linemate Josiah Green, who had 49 tackles – including nine for a loss with three sacks – has heard from some of the same schools as a grad transfer but also North Carolina State, Duke and UConn among others.

Also earning notable FBS offers as grad transfers are Braden Mullen (Memphis, UAB, Nevada and various MAC teams) and Jordan Washington (Stanford).

#

Elsewhere, former Dartmouth quarterback Nick Howard was an All-Pioneer Football League first-team selection as an "all-purpose back," and was chosen to the Academic All-PFL first team for his play at Butler. He ran for team highs of 712 yards and 13 touchdowns and threw for 519 yards and seven touchdowns, completing 66 percent of his attempts without an interception.

#

Former Dartmouth defensive lineman Gannon McCorkle also was chosen to the Academic All-PFL first team, and was named honorable mention All-PFL for his play at Marist.

McCorkle is entering the transfer portal for a second time as is Marques White, another D-lineman who played this year at McNeese State. White led the Cowboys in tackles for loss with 6.5, sacks with 3.5 and quarterback hurries with seven. He was fifth on the team in tackles with 52.

On the subject of grad transfers, offensive lineman John Paul Flores graduated from Dartmouth and then played at Virginia and Louisville before landing this year at Liberty, his fourth school. Liberty has produced a video headlined John Paul Flores: Why Liberty? that can be watched HERE.

EXTRA POINT

I'll blame the abnormally warm weather that lingered through much of the fall instead of my own laziness for the fact that our '84 VW bus was covered with snow last week and in danger of getting frozen in place for the winter. With snow in the forecast last night, I got the old bus fired up yesterday, cleared the snow off it and then, with dread, started the process of getting it into the garage and jockeying it back and forth until it was parallel with the garage doors.

Three times I started the process of getting the thing in its proper resting place, not too close to the back of the garage where there's an electric panel that we have to be able to access, but not so far away from the back that we wouldn't be able to get our cars in as well. Three times I had to start all over, which was no fun at all.

For the record, the VW has a four-speed manual transmission and does not have power steering. Turning the wheel while inching back and forth isn't easy, and the garage isn't all that wide. That's by way of explaining why the bus needed to be nursed back and forth, back and forth as little as a foot (or less) at a time before finally being put to sleep for the winter:
