What Do You Think?

One week into the season, here's where the venerable Sagarin Ratings place Ivy League teams among the 265 Division I schools – sans Dartmouth. I left the Big Green out to give you a chance to think about where you think the team should be slotted in the Ivy ranks, and among all FBS and FCS schools.

146 Harvard

155 Yale

185 Princeton

188 Penn

200 Columbia

230 Cornell

245 Brown

Here's how Sagarin ranks the Green's nonconference opponents:

140 New Hampshire

218 Fordham

241 Central Connecticut

Once you have thought your way through that exercise you can slide down to the bottom of this page and see where Sagarin actually has Dartmouth pegged two weeks ahead of the first game.

The Dartmouth has a Q&A with Big Green defensive coordinator Don Dobes, selected the AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year last December. Find the story HERE.

George Duggins, a Dartmouth commit from Michigan, had his final season of high school football ended by injury but continues to be a leader. Read about how he's still contributing to his Mona Shore team HERE.

A story headlined Checking in on 5 former Syracuse defensive veterans on NFL rosters has this to say about Isaiah Johnson, who enjoyed a solid career at Dartmouth before picking up his degree and grad transferring (LINK):

A former Ivy League standout, Johnson transferred to Syracuse from Dartmouth in 2022 id spent two seasons as a starter for the Orange. He has yet to get his NFL career going in earnest, but he landed on the Dolphins' practice squad last year and seems to have stuck for a second straight campaign.

Given all of the injuries in Miami's secondary, there is a chance we could see Johnson suit up for a few games this year.

And speaking of former Dartmouth standouts now getting paid to play the game, Flo Orimolade shares his thoughts about returning to the Calgary Stampeders after winning the Grey Cup – the CFL's Super Bowl – with the Toronto Argonauts:

EXTRA POINT

There was a possibility of significant rain last night but apparently we didn't get much more than a drizzle. While I don't mind that the drought we are experiencing has cut back on my mowing, the lack of precipitation is getting serious in these parts and has led to fire concerns.

("On record" in the graphic below dates back only to 1948, but it should give you an idea of what we've been facing.)

"Montpelier, Vermont experienced the driest summer on record this year, after two of the wettest on record the last two years. Major swing! This summer we had 5.45 inches of rain. 2023 summer had 22.72 inches!"

Here are the Sagarin Ivy League ratings referenced at the top of today's posting, with Dartmouth included this time:

146 Harvard

155 Yale

169 Dartmouth

185 Princeton

188 Penn

200 Columbia

230 Cornell

245 Brown

Transposition error this a.m. The Dartmouth-UNH game is a tossup per Sagarin. Mea culpa for the earlier posting with UNH heavily favored.
