Mark Blaudschun, a former Boston Globe reporter now posting as "A Jersey Guy" on TMG sports, cites unnamed sources who told him the Ivy League has two options for football season. From Blaudschun's report (LINK):
The first would be to open the 2020 seasoning late September with a 7-game schedule comprised of only conference opponents. And . . .
The second plan, which is gaining momentum because of the increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases in the country, would shut down football until next spring, with a star up (for practice) in March and another 7-game (conference opponents only schedule) beginning in April and concluding in mid-May.Green Alert Take: As a veteran journalist in New England (and now New Jersey), Blaudschun has solid sources but he certainly didn't need them for the first option. We all know that's under consideration. As for the second option, it's been widely discussed and only time will tell if the Ivy League would go in that direction. While the "Jersey Guy" is a respected professional, there's no real news there . . . yet.

Here's some real news. The College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State College), located about 10 miles south of Princeton, has taken a more dramatic approach than the Ivies to this point, canceling its Division III football season entirely. (LINK)
And football is not alone. From a school press release (LINK):
In keeping with TCNJ's top priority of providing a safe environment for students, faculty and staff, the decision was made to cancel the following high-risk sports seasons for the fall semester: football, field hockey, men's and women's soccer, wrestling and men's and women's basketball.

For those of you keeping score . . .
It actually rained last night here in the northern Upper Valley. Serious, heavy rain. Finally. And fingers crossed, we could get more today.

EXTRA POINT
After dinner yesterday we pulled on our sneakers, collected Griff the Wonder Dog and headed out on a two-and-a-quarter mile loop from our house, all on dirt roads.
I take that back. The wonderfully named Rabbit Track will show up on your GPS as a dirt road but if you are coming for a visit and your GPS tells you to take it, don't. A rabbit track it is. The only way to get through is with an ATV, motorcycle or mountain bike or, like us, on foot.
A few hundred yards up Rabbit Track there's a home with two beagles that start to howl each time we come by, long before they could ever see us. Griff looks up at them with interest but then just keeps on keeping on.
After passing a beautiful old church built in 1832, we turn and soon two German shepherds start barking. Again, Griff gives them a look and keeps going.
I'm a huge Snoopy fan. I think beagles are adorable. And I loved Rin Tin Tin as a kid. But I guess we've been spoiled.
Our previous golden retrievers seldom barked. Griff? No lie, he lets out maybe, maybe, one bark a year. This year's bark came in the house last week and he seemed as shocked as we were. Seriously, beagles and shepherds are great dogs, but I'll take a sweet, loyal golden retriever who doesn't bark eight days a week.
