Kaskey Earns His Stripes

Former Dartmouth offensive tackle Matt Kaskey survived the final cut and earned a spot on the Carolina Panthers' roster. He spent part of last season on the team's practice squad and was active for the final game. (LINK)

Niko Lalos, a former Big Green defensive end, was cut by the New York Giants, but GiantsWire includes him on its projected practice squad, which this year has been expanded to 16, with six of any experience level (LINK).

The Call To Lead campaign has a story under the headline The Enduring Legacy of Ellis Rowe '74. From the story (LINK):

The late Ellis B. Rowe ’74 was an imposing figure—but a gentle giant to his friends—whose intellect, drive, and good humor made him a leader in his profession and within the Dartmouth community. He came to New England from Florida thanks to the scholarship program A Better Chance, which brings academically talented students of color to competitive secondary schools. The son of parents who deeply valued education, he excelled at Andover High School in Massachusetts and then made his way to Hanover, where he was an exceptional student and a standout fullback on football teams that won four Ivy League titles.

EXTRA POINT

The '84 VW Westfalia Vanagon poptop made it successfully over 10,135-foot North Cochetopa Pass and down into Gunnison, Colo., yesterday. We are spending the coming week with That Certain Dartmouth '14, an education ranger at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park.

We arrived in town around noon but didn't meet up with TCD'14 until later in the day – after she finished The Grand Traverse, a 45.8 mile trail run that featured 7,868 feet of elevation gain. Her time was 9 hours, 40 minutes and 13 seconds. For those of you who have step counters, she topped 90,000 steps on the day ;-)
