No Fun League

Professional football is a business, pure and simple.

That lesson was reinforced by the news yesterday that former Dartmouth offensive lineman Matt Kaskey, who made the final cut with the Carolina Panthers, was released after the team went shopping on the free agent market. Kaskey was let go after the team claimed tackle Trent Scott, waived by the Los Angeles Chargers after starting nine games last year. (LINK)

To the list of incoming Dartmouth recruits add a familiar name.

Tweeting his intention to attend school in Hanover and play for the Big Green is James Coslet, a 6-foot-3, 255-pound lineman from Watchung Hills Regional High School in New Jersey. (LINK)

He's the son of former Dartmouth player JJ Coslet '97, a three-year letterwinner as an offensive tackle. He's also the grandson of Bruce Coslet, the former NFL head coach.

EXTRA POINT

Doing a little sightseeing yesterday with That Certain Dartmouth '14 we drove up and up and up bumpy mountain dirt roads to Lake Irwin, a pristine alpine lake at 10,200 feet altitude. With one of us wearing a T-shirt reading "Dartmouth Football" we heard this yelled from a kayak near the shore of the lake: "Go Big Green."

Turns out it was a grad from the Class of 2012.
