Teevens: Don't Count On Spring Football

Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens is not optimistic about a spring football season per a story on the new Octopus Athletics site. Said Teevens (LINK):

“I honestly don’t see (a spring season) happening logistically with the needs of field space and coverage by the (athletic department) support staff. The (Ivy League) presidents haven’t ruled it out, but that seems difficult."

While the story has an optimistic headline – Dartmouth Football Hopes To Resume Practice Within A Month – those "practices" sound more like drills:

“We’d have groups of 10 players and one coach, no more,” Teevens said. “There would be different zones of occupation on the field and you shouldn’t cross into anyone else’s zone. Maybe a quarterback throws to a wide receiver who throws to a relay guy who sanitizes the ball and throws it back to the quarterback.”

The writer also spoke with fifth-year senior Drew Estrada, who admitted his plans are up in the air.

STATS has a piece that lists the top schools for players on active NFL rosters. Here are the leaders (LINK):

7 – James Madison

6 – HARVARD

6 – Delaware

6 – North Dakota State

6 – South Carolina State

5 – Eastern Washington

5 – Illinois State

4 – Chattanooga

4 – North Carolina A&T

From The Valley News (LINK):

At least 23 Tuck School of Business students are in quarantine after attending a party at a graduate school dormitory in an incident that Dartmouth College officials said was a “serious offense” against COVID-19 precautions.

and . . .

Dartmouth confirmed on Tuesday that two undergraduates were sent home and can’t register for on-campus classes for the rest of the academic year after an incident that also involved three alumni at the Phi Delta Alpha fraternity on Saturday, Aug. 29.

and . . .

Four students out of 1,502 who have done “pre-arrival testing” have tested positive for COVID-19, Dartmouth said on its COVID-19 dashboard. Those four remain at home.

And finally, it notes something the college has ruled but should have gone without saying: Pong is prohibited on campus and locally.

EXTRA POINT

When it comes to snow, Colorado is known for fine powder. What fell here yesterday was anything but.

Our '84 VW Westfalia isn't exactly nimble in the snow and rest assured it's not going anywhere in the 6-8 inches of heavy, wet snow that fell yesterday. Good thing it's not headed in for an oil change until tomorrow in anticipation of the drive back to Vermont!

But on a more optimistic note, what's falling out there right now really is powder.
