Well Done

Maybe it's because I'm used to marching bands like THIS, but I've never been a big fan of Ivy League's scramble bands. That said, kudos to members of DCMB, who not only couldn't perform on the field but didn't have access to their instruments, and still came up with this:

Following up on the earlier post about the most points scored in one season by a Dartmouth football player since the start of formal Ivy League play (LINK), here is a list of the Big Green's Top Career Scorers Since 1956:

Former offensive lineman Jacob Flores ’16 and defensive lineman AJ Zuttah ’16 will join head coach Buddy Teevens in this week's Woods Watch Party video stream of the 2015 nailbiter against Princeton that clinched a share of the Ivy League championship. Read about the Watch Party HERE.

When I first read in this story that Noah Kindle, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound defensive end/outside linebacker from Port Huron, Mich., chose Grand Valley State over "offers" from Dartmouth and Georgetown it had me scratching my head. I get it that GVSU is a terrific program with national championships in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006 at the DII level, that it outdraws most Ivy League schools, and that it has three players currently in the NFL. But Dartmouth and Georgetown are two of the best schools in the land.

Then I read more of the story and I not only understand but I applaud the kid. He told the newspaper:

"I want to major in kinesiology, and they have one of the best programs in the state -- and even the country."

Green Alert Take: If you are absolutely certain what you want to study and it's offered at one school and not at another, the smart pick is the school that offers the major you want.

Dartmouth now has nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 among students and one positive faculty/staff member. A total of 70 students and nine staff are in quarantine and 15 students and 18 faculty/staff are in isolation. (Dartmouth COVID dashboard)

Sixteen college football games scheduled for this week have been canceled or postponed, running the number of such games this fall to 78.

New Hampshire, which proudly bills itself as the "Live Free or Die" state, has finally joined the rest of New England and issued a mask mandate. (LINK)

EXTRA POINT

I updated my MacBook Air to the Big Sur OS a couple of days ago and I'm using the photo above – which came with the update – as the desktop on my second screen. If you look closely at the Pacific Coast Highway you'll see the famed Bixby Bridge.

You'll have to excuse me if the picture leads me to daydream occasionally about when I did THIS, although I was going the other way. I still remember the wind rushing down the canyon trying to push me into the middle of the road. (For some interesting background on the bridge, click HERE.)
