All Kinds Of Numbers

Following up on yesterday's look at Dartmouth's football records vs. "The Big Three" since 2000, today we look at the records vs. the "Other Four."

Of note: After going 13-27 against the group from 2000-09, Dartmouth has posted a 29-11 record against Brown, Columbia, Cornell and Penn since then:

With recruiting wrapped up for the incoming fall class attention is on the next group of potential recruits. There's a list of "offers" for each school on the 247Sports site but before breaking that list down, here's something to consider about how complete the services are in what they report:

Barring any changes, Dartmouth should have 29 recruits coming next fall. The 247Sports site lists only seven. (LINK)

Keeping that in mind, 247Sports reports Dartmouth handing out "offers" to 125 potential recruits in this year's junior class, broken down this way:

Quarterbacks - 5
Running Backs - 10
Wide Receivers - 11
Tight Ends - 11
Offensive Tackles - 26
Offensive Guards - 8
Centers - 3
Defensive Ends - 10
Defensive Tackles - 3
Linebackers - 13
Corners - 2
Safeties - 10
Athletes - 13

How does the Dartmouth total compare to that from other Ivy League schools? It's probably pretty similar but you couldn't tell by the numbers compiled by 247Sports. Keeping in mind what we saw in the list of Dartmouth commits in the 2021 high school class, here's how many offers the service says each Ivy has handed out, from most to fewest:

Penn 142

Dartmouth 125

Yale 115

Columbia 112

Princeton 65

Harvard 52

Brown 17

Cornell 4

EXTRA POINT
Headline in the New York Times: How Much Weight Did We Gain During Lockdowns? 2 Pounds a Month, Study Hints. (LINK)

Here at the BGA World Headquarters we've been going in the other direction. Since late October we've pretty much eliminated red meat and most bread, feasted on healthy salads, limited snacks and enjoyed fruit for deserts. It hasn't been about dieting but rather about eating smarter.

Mixing in a steady dose of hiking, I'm now closing in on my college weight. I'm barely breathing hard cruising up and down the mountain each day and have been digging clothes out that had been buried deep in my closet.

There certainly hasn't been much good to come out of the pandemic, but here at our hillside home in Vermont that's something!
