How About That!

Something that escaped my notice until pulling this chart together: When Dartmouth football swept Harvard, Yale and Princeton a year ago last fall it marked the first 3-0 showing against HYP since the 1996 team went 10-0. Dartmouth football against the Ivy League's big three since 2000:

The Reggie Williams '77 story linked to here last week is gaining a little extra attention as a result of the all-time Dartmouth and Cincinnati Bengals linebacker's postgame ritual. (LINK)

Meant to mention yesterday that Sept. 25 Dartmouth opponent Sacred Heart improved to 2-1 Sunday with a 26-9 win over Merrimack. Once again, tailback Julius Chestnut led the way with 173 yards rushing and 68 receiving, with one score on the ground and one through the air.

Joe Moglia, the former Dartmouth defensive assistant who went on to become a giant in finance before returning to football as head coach at Coastal Carolina, will be inducted into the Fordham Athletic Hall of Fame. (LINK)

COVID-19 continues to plague the FCS season with no Patriot League games last week and only two of the first six PL games actually taking place.

Elsewhere, Illinois State ended its season after a 1-3 start and a string of injuries that depleted the roster.

From a story in The Dartmouth about a COVID-19 outbreak at the Tuck School of Business (LINK):

The College has identified a cluster of at least nine linked COVID-19 cases, according to Dartmouth’s COVID-19 dashboard. In an email sent to Tuck School of Business students, faculty and staff on Monday announcing the new positive tests, Tuck dean Matthew Slaughter wrote that the cases, all among members of Tuck’s student community, were identified as a part of the school’s return-to-campus protocol following its spring break.

There's good vaccination news for Dartmouth students and staff who live in New Hampshire. (LINK)

Colby-Sawyer College, a half hour drive south of Hanover and the nearest college to Dartmouth, has also had an outbreak with 61 students testing positive for COVID-19.

EXTRA POINT

These are the "cascading petunias" planted in our old Aerogarden on Nov. 1. They are still hanging in there and can be transplanted outside come spring. While the temperature could hit 60 today and approach 70 later in the week there's still plenty of cold weather ahead. A Google search suggests they can handle temperatures as low as 39 degrees but don't do well when there's frost. Can they hold on until the weather warms up for good? Stay tuned.
