Coach T Checking In

Yesterday's post included a transcript of coach Buddy Teevens' remarks to Mike McCune '92, WCAX TV sports anchor and former All-Ivy League offensive lineman, regarding spring practice. Today – the video report:

Speaking of spring football, I missed this earlier but the Yale Daily News had a story last week about football practice in New Haven and the approach Elis' coach Tony Reno has taken. From the story (LINK):

This year, with members of the team returning to football after a season of inaction, training has been more intense than previous spring semesters to prepare players for competitive play, as opposed to helping them recuperate from a long season.

And . . .

“There are stark differences in what we’ve been doing in the spring compared to the fall,” Reno said. “We’re practicing with helmets and using footballs, which has allowed us to work a lot on individual skills and drills specific to positions. Even in years past under non-COVID situations, most of those spring drills would be done without the use of football helmets. These practices have really allowed players that have been away from the game for over a year to begin to ease their way back into it.”

The Yale story sent me scurrying around the Ivy League to see what I might have missed in other school newspapers and several stories caught my eye.

The Cornell Sun has a piece about Heisman Trophy runner-up Ed Marinaro's son, Eddie, following his father's footsteps and continuing his career on Schoellkopf Field. The story has comments from the senior Marinaro, a running back listed at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds while playing in Ithaca. The younger Marinaro, currently a high school senior in Charleston, S.C., is a 6-0, 190 quarterback/athlete. (LINK

And the Columbia Spectator has a story about Josh Wainright, the standout receiver who "broke records and spearheaded the revitalization of Columbia football," only to see his final season of college football erased by the pandemic. (LINK)

Finally, Princeton's always interesting TigerBlog has a mention of one of the most iconic pictures in Dartmouth football history HERE. (In the interest of full disclosure, I'm partly responsible for the posting.)

From the non-sports realm, there's good news in The Dartmouth (LINK):

On-campus vaccination clinics on May 5 and May 6 will "likely" offer Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines on both days, according to task force co-chairs Lisa Adams and Josh Keniston. The College also expanded access to include dependents, partners and household members of Dartmouth students, staff and faculty who are 18 years of age or older regardless of state residency.

EXTRA POINT

Today is the seventh birthday of TCGR (That Certain Golden Retriever). Here's a shot taken over the weekend during a hike on our local trail system that made Griff the Wonder Dog as every bit as happy as it made him muddy:
