This And That

As was the case yesterday, there are times when I can't recall if a video has appeared previously on BGA Daily. I think this one out of the Dartmouth football office is new but can't be sure. What makes me think it is new is the soundtrack. I can't remember one like this on a Dartmouth video ;-)

#

The college has issued a five-paragraph letter out of Dartmouth President Phil Hanlon's office signed by the president and Peter Roby, interim athletic director. (LINK) One sentence in the somewhat terse letter sums it up:

We are pleased to announce that Janet Judge and Phil Catanzano of Holland & Knight, a national law firm with expertise in Title IX compliance, will lead a gender equity review of our NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics program.

Green Alert Take: Maybe it's just me but in this case I think I would have avoided using the word "pleased. "

There are 68 players expected to participate in Dartmouth spring practice starting May 1. Here's the full list, keeping in mind there may still be some adjustments.

A few thoughts . . .

• That's a pretty good number of players on campus for the spring and not out of line with a normal year. Keep in mind there are other returnees who needed to take the spring off to preserve eligibility. (Hello Jake Guidone ;-)

• Interesting that at quarterback senior Derek Kyler and sophomore Nick Howard are the only non-freshmen. Ditto for junior Keegan McHugh and soph Noah Roper at running back.

• There are 10 seniors, 14 juniors, 15 sophomores and 29 freshmen listed.

•  Per earlier Dartmouth announcements the classes having preference for being on campus this spring were senior and freshman.

EXTRA POINT
Late last week we ended a free 30-day trial of Hulu just before the first charge would have kicked in. I took out the trial specifically to watch the movie Nomadland but we hardly used it apart from that. We might have watched two episodes of The Wonder Years (mostly for the intro with Joe Cocker’s With a Little Help from My Friends theme song ;-) but that was it.

I’m a huge fan of free trials of online services. Last week I took out a free trial of ScreenCastsOnline, which offers tutorials for using Apple devices and applications as I sought a little help moving iPhoto libraries off DVDs and onto an external drive. Once again, I found I wouldn’t use the service enough and I was impressed that I received an email one day before the free trial was to end reminding me of that fact –  and even sharing a link for canceling.

I bring that all up because throughout Dartmouth spring football (again, COVID permitting) I’ll be offering a free trial of BGA Premium. You’ll be able to access coverage of spring practice after each session and then decide if you want to return in late August when seven-day-a-week coverage of the program resumes. Stay tuned for more details.
