Who Knew? (Not Me)

Gotta admit, this caught me by surprise.

Like a lot of you, I don't spend much time going through my junk mail because there's rarely anything that doesn't belong there. But yesterday I went searching for something that was supposed to have come my way and I stumbled across a link that led me to a BC Lions bio page for former Dartmouth corner Isiah Swann '20. Check out his BC Lions bio HERE and his Dartmouth bio HERE.

Swann, you'll remember, was the Ivy League defensive player of the year in 2018. He signed with the Cincinnati Bengals after graduation but was released before summer camp because of an injury.

Green Alert Take: Delayed thanks for the link! I'm endeavoring to find out a little more and will share what I learn here.

In case you missed it, Questions for Coach with Dartmouth's Buddy Teevens was posted yesterday on BGA Premium. Lots of good stuff there, even if I say so myself. Thanks for the questions!

The Boston Herald has a story about the New England Patriots' soft spot for players who were coached by a familiar name at Michigan and elsewhere. From the story:

The common thread: Don Brown.

The Massachusetts native and longtime coach was the defensive coordinator at Michigan from 2016-20, so he developed Winovich, Uche and McGrone. With Jim Harbaugh the head coach at Michigan, and especially Brown leading the defense, Belichick hasn’t been afraid to go back to the same well.

Looking at the resume, Brown has been with an impressive list of schools during the past 40 years.

He’s either been either the head coach, or defensive coordinator at Dartmouth, Yale, Brown, UMass, Northeastern, UConn, Boston College, Michigan and now, the University of Arizona where he’s joined former Patriots quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch.

Brown, of course, got his coaching start across the river at Hartford (Vt.) High School before becoming a grad assistant of sorts at Dartmouth. He would go on to do two stints with the Big Green. Here's how his coaching journey has gone:

Hartford High School – Assistant Coach (1977-82)
DARTMOUTH – Assistant Coach (1982)
Mansfield University – Defensive Coordinator (1983)
DARTMOUTH – Defensive Coordinator (1984-86)
Yale – Defensive Coordinator (1987-92)
Plymouth State – Head Coach (1993-95)
Brown – Defensive Coordinator (1996-97)
Massachusetts – Defensive Coordinator (1998-99)
Northeastern – Head Coach (2000-03)
Massachusetts – Head Coach (2004-08)
Maryland – Defensive Coordinator/Cornerbacks (2009-10)
Connecticut – Defensive Coordinator/Cornerbacks (2011-12)
Boston College – Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers (2013-15)
Michigan – Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers (2016-20)
Arizona – Defensive Coordinator (2021-current)

And finally, the seventh-seeded Duke women's lacrosse team crushed Mount St. Mary’s, 19-3, in Friday's NCAA Tournament game with Hanover's Maddie McCorkle scoring her first two career goals. The Blue Devils face off against Maryland today.

If Maddie's last name is familiar it's because her dad, Sammy, is Dartmouth's proud assistant head coach. Find her Duke bio HERE.

EXTRA POINT
Looking out our front window on this glorious, Chamber of Commerce morning, I am reminded of the old saying, "The only difference between a flower and a weed is judgment."

Our emerald green lawn is overrun by shockingly yellow dandelions and you know what? Although the lawnmower will take care of that tomorrow it really does look beautiful today. Happy spring!
