This And That

Dartmouth Sports Publicity has a story about the naming of quarterback Derek Kyler, tight end Robbie Mangas, safety Niko Mermigas and linebacker Tanner Cross as 2021 Big Green captains HERE. Last night's BGA Premium practice report had thoughts from Buddy Teevens on his new captains as well as the second of a series of three looks with the head coach at this year's freshman class HERE.

In case you are wondering how that arcane number is derived, here is the formula:

((8.4 x Passing Yards) + (330 x Touchdown Passes) + (100 x Number of Completions) – (200 x Interceptions)) ÷ Passing Attempts

Got that?

Green Alert Take: Two things. First, regardless of what you think about the formula the numbers certainly say something good about quarterback play in Hanover. And second, the numbers also speak to how quarterback play has changed. Brian Dowling's 1968 season and Jay Fiedler's 1992 seasons are unicorns on the list.

Princeton continues to be the only school in the Ivy League that hasn't posted its updated football  roster. Very curious.

The Princeton football team has, however, Tweeted out a team photo HERE and I will confess I took a look at the photo checking to see if one particular player was returning. I did not spot him.  ;-)

EXTRA POINT
When we lived in rural Hanover it took me 12-15 minutes to get to Memorial Field. It's more like 35 minutes from our Vermont hillside to the stadium but the ride could hardly be more beautiful or relaxing, with 21 miles of the drive on lightly traveled I-91.

How lightly traveled is the interstate? Keeping in mind that I generally tool along no faster than 65 mph, I didn't pass anyone on my way to practice yesterday and had just nine cars pass me. I started counting after I didn't see a single other car until I'd already passed the first of two exits before I get to the Hanover exit.

As an aside, only one of the cars that passed me was from Vermont and none from New Hampshire. The others were from Connecticut, Massachusetts and Maryland. Oh, and a New Yorker who wasn't going double my speed . . . but was probably hitting triple digits.
