Quickly II

With hotel rooms in State College able to charge $350/night with a two-night minimum on big football weekends, we certainly did not stay in Happy Valley after Penn State's 24-0 win over Indiana last night. After wending through the crowd of more than 105,000 people and power-walking 45 minutes to our car, we drove 90 minutes to our more reasonably priced motel. We checked in at about 1:30 and now have at least a seven-hour drive back to Vermont. All that is by way of saying today's opponent roundup is going to be very brief.

Princeton 24, Columbia 7
Columbia had the better quarterback on the day, Princeton the better team.

Yale 34, Lehigh 0
Tom Gilmore's Mountain Hawks are almost historically inept on offense. They have scored nine points in five games and are still looking for their first touchdown.

Harvard 38, Holy Cross 13
Holy Cross is apparently up and down. Harvard is apparently back up.

Bucknell  21, Cornell 10
Bad, bad loss for the Big Red to the toothless Bison.

Bryant 36, Brown 29
Defense is still a dirty word around the Perrys, but that's actually a  pretty good showing.

James Madison 23, New Hampshire 21
UNH didn't win but it threw a scare at one of the nation's elite.

Howard 22, Sacred Heart 17
If you have to ask if Julius Chestnut played you aren't paying attention.

Marist 27, Valparaiso 24 (OT)
We knew the Beacons weren't strong but . . .

One more . . .

Oklahoma State 24, Baylor 14
Former Dartmouth standout Drew Estrada led Baylor with six catches for 88 yards and ran two times, albeit for minus three yards.
