Anything New?

The only fresh news in this latest edition of As The Transfer Portal Turns is senior tight end Robbie Mangas adding Buffalo to his growing list of suitors. The MAC school joins UConn, James Madison, Richmond, Rhode Island, Missouri State, Towson, Southern Illinois and Youngstown State in seeking the services of the Big Green co-captain.

The grad transfer route certainly hasn't turned out badly for Drew Estrada, who will join his Big 12 championship Baylor Bear teammates in the Sugar Bowl against Ole Miss on Jan. 1.

Estrada, who had six catches with a touchdown in the Big 12 championship win over Oklahoma State, has 28 catches for 353 yards (12.6 per catch) this fall with one touchdown.

Elsewhere among Dartmouth graduate transfers:

• Defensive lineman Seth Simmer earned a spot on the All-Southern Conference second team at Samford thanks in part to a strong finish with the Bulldogs. He had 12 tackles in his final game against Furman, finishing the year with 35 stops overall, fourth on the team. He had seven tackles for loss, two sacks and a memorable outing against Florida when he made seven tackles in a shootout with the Gators in the Swamp.

• Running back Caylin Parker finished the year with seven carries for 17 yards and one touchdown at Albany.

• Defensive lineman TJ Simpson missed the first three games for Indiana State before finishing with eight tackles in seven games with the Sycamores.

• Defensive back-turned-linebacker Micah Croom appeared in all 12 games at USC this fall, making both of his tackles and forcing a fumble as a member of the Trojan special teams.

Former Dartmouth linebacker Flo Orimolade '17 saw his comeback season with the Calgary Stampeders come to a close on Nov. 28 with a 33-30 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the CFL's Western Semifinals. Orimolade, the former Bushnell Cup winner as the Ivy League's top defensive player, had eight tackles on defense, one on special teams and two sacks in seven games. After missing the entire 2019 season with a quadriceps injury, he was sidelined for the first eight games this fall before finally getting back on the field.

EXTRA POINT

Mrs. BGA was updating me on yet another of the endless Hallmark Christmas movies the other day and I had to laugh because they all have the same plot. I told her they remind me of writing a major paper in high school. Remember how the teacher would have you write your main points/facts on index cards and then rearrange them so the paper flowed properly?

It seems as if the Hallmark writers do the same thing, except with a difference. They use the same cards in every movie, just in a  different order. Those cards mention:

• An attractive young woman working on the annual Christmas pageant, which has to be in trouble.

• The attractive young woman's attractive boyfriend, who is too busy with his career back in the city.

• An attractive young handyman man driving an attractive old pickup truck meets the attractive young woman when her car breaks down.

• The attractive young woman and the attractive young handyman are, well, attracted to each other only to have one see the other being kissed by the attractive old flame and misunderstanding. One attractive person then decides to tearfully leave town, but only after making sure a special Christmas present is delivered to the other attractive person.

• Everything works out and the two attractive people are next seen at the Christmas pageant, which the two attractive people have helped make a success.

• The attractive young woman and the attractive young handyman gaze in each other's eyes in the attractive gazebo and kiss for the first time while the sound of happy carolers floats through the air.

Rearrange cards, spray more fake snow and repeat.
