On To 2022

FCS guru Craig Haley of The Analyst (nee STATS) includes a capsule look at the 2022 Ivy League race in the first part of his Lookahead to 2022 FCS Season, writing (LINK):

Early Outlook: Two-time defending champion Dartmouth keeps getting it done under coach Buddy Teevens, but Harvard is likely the team to beat with the running backs duo of Aaron Shampklin and Aidan Borguet, and a solid defense. Yale, which has the most all-time wins (921) among FCS programs, will remain strong, while co-champ Princeton must overcome substantial senior losses.

The capsule also include this:

Fast Fact: Harvard coach Tim Murphy became the Ivy League’s all-time wins leader (186) last season and  Columbia’s Al Bagnoli added to the highest win total (264) among active FCS coaches.

On the CBS Sports site, the self-appointed Czar offers his powerpoll for the 2021 FCS season, which ranks Dartmouth No. 18 (LINK):

18. Dartmouth (9-1): One of the best coaches in football, Buddy Teevens, is coming off yet another Ivy League title, his fifth all-time at his alma mater.

And he has this to say about Princeton:

23. Princeton (9-1): Coach Bob Surace and his Tigers took home a share of the Ivy League title in 2021. With a strong roster, he will keep Princeton in contention for the Ivy crown every year.

He has Holy Cross at 21 and Sacred Heart at 24.

Following up on Phil Steele's All-Ivy League team(s), he had three Ivy players among those receiving national honors. Cornell offensive lineman Hunter Nourzad was named a third-team All-American and Princeton linebacker Jeremiah Tyler was chosen for the fourth team.

Harvard defensive lineman Thor Griffith was a second-team pick on the all-freshman team. The 6-foot-2, 303-pound Griffith is from Portsmouth, N.H.

Dartmouth football has enjoyed some success recruiting in Canada and is expecting big things from offensive lineman Konstantin Spörk, the 6-5, 275-pound German who missed his freshman season last fall with a hand injury. Per Twitter at least one more German is on the Big Green radar and BGA reported last fall about a 6-9, 300-pound Danish lineman who considered Dartmouth before finally choosing Illinois.

Could more Europeans and Canadians be on the way? The chances improved with Dartmouth announcing it will now offer need-blind international admissions. From a story in The Dartmouth (LINK):

“Dartmouth is now one of only six U.S. universities — the others being Amherst College, Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University and Yale University — to offer universal need-blind admissions and meet 100% of applicants’ demonstrated need regardless of their citizenship status.”

EXTRA POINT
How long have I been doing BGA? Those who have been checking in each day since it went online in 2005 have seen both the site and a couple of kids grow up. This week That Certain Dartmouth '14-turned-educational ranger began teaching a couple of night classes at Western Colorado University. Here she was during the first spring of BGA. Yup, it's been a few years ;-)
