See You Saturday

Per internet reports Saturday's Green-White scrimmage is the final spring football game in the nation at the Division I level. The Friends of Dartmouth Football organization will provide coffee and bagels starting at 8:30 a.m. for early arrivals to the 10:30 event.

If you can't make it, read all about the Green-White Saturday night on BGA Premium.

With a recruited kicker changing his mind at the last minute, kicker/punter Cameron Baller is currently the only placekicker on the Dartmouth roster for 2022. That being the case, Dartmouth has put out the call to see if the next "skicker" or the like is on campus. (Skicker is the nickname Big Green coach Buddy Teevens gave to a couple of skiers who showed big legs as walk-ons several years ago.)

Baller was the Dartmouth kickoff specialist last fall. He did not attempt a field goal but was 7-for-8 on extra points. He also served as the Big Green punter for the first half of the season.

Thanks to a loyal and always helpful BGA reader for steering me to a Tweet showing sometimes fumble-prone quarterback Jameis Winston using a couple of old friends to help him with ball security. (For the newbies out there, the old friends are the MVP robotic tackling dummies, developed at Dartmouth but remaining stationary here.)

The Analyst points out that with the addition of Stonehill (Easton, Mass.), Texas A&M Commerce (Commerce, Texas) and Lindenwood (St. Charles, Mo.), the FCS will have a record 130 team this fall. As recently as 2018 there were just 125. (LINK

Green Alert Take: How long until Stonehill shows up on an Ivy schedule?

Getting paid for earning good grades? Athletes at 22 FBS-level schools will be getting up to $5,980 per year for just that. (LINK)

Green Alert Take: Part of me thinks it is wrong to pay players for doing what they are supposed to be doing. But another part thinks it's better than paying them to smile at a camera while holding up a roll on deodorant  ;-)

EXTRA POINT
You know it is an early morning when I had a chance to meet a new friend on my hike up the mountain and pull this together:
