I’m camping at a lake in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom this week and, through the wonders of “scheduled” BGA Daily posting while I’m off grid, thought to give you a brief look behind the curtain at what I’ve found covering games at each of Dartmouth’s 2022 road opponents.
At Princeton
While Princeton Stadium has its share of critics who think it’s cold and sterile, I’m not one of them. I like it. A lot.
With the double-deck on both sidelines is it a little too big? Perhaps, although it wasn’t back when it opened and regularly filled up.
I clearly remember walking into the stadium for the first time with a former Dartmouth captain who was doing color commentary on the radio and hearing him say, “If they had this when I was being recruited there’s no way I would have ended up at Dartmouth.”
My only complaint with the new stadium at Princeton is getting to the press box. I’m sure it’s just me but for as many times as I’ve been there, I always have to search out the elevator. (I know, I know. First-world problem.) For what it’s worth, it may be the slowest elevator I’ve ever been in, at a stadium or otherwise.
Inside the box is easily the largest and most airy of all of those in the Ivy League. It’s also the only one featuring a large open area with tables and chairs to sit at while eating the provided box lunch and chatting with former AD Gary Walters or members of the media.
Speaking of which, I guess the phantom elevator isn’t my only complaint.
As a lifelong mayonnaise hater it’s always a disappointment to grab one of the delicious-looking sandwiches at Princeton and find it slathered in that greasy, yucky white stuff. I guess I’m being petty again but lunch for me down in New Jersey has usually ended up being a little bag of chips.
Ah, but Princeton has long been the only Ivy facility with a soda machine in the box. You know, the kind they have at Arby’s with free refills.
Good thing they’ve got a nice, clean bathroom right next to it.
