Caveat Emptor

More silly season stuff . . .

Something called Versus Sports Simulator (not to be confused with the former Versus TV network that broadcast a few Dartmouth games several years ago) has a computer model that has predicted the Ivy League race this way (LINK):

1. Princeton
2. Dartmouth
3. Harvard
4. Yale
5. Columbia
6. Brown
7. Pennsylvania
8. Cornell

Green Alert Take: Practice can't start soon enough.

Green Alert Take II: Even the computers see Penn in free fall.

Green Alert Take III: Before you give the Versus Sports Simulator much credence, consider how it ranked the FCS conferences:

1. Missouri Valley
2. Big Sky
3. Atlantic Sun
4. SoCon
5. CAA
6. WAC
7. Ivy League
8. Southland
9. Ohio Valley
10. Big South
11. SWAC
12. Pioneer
13. MEAC
14. Patriot
15. NEC

Green Alert Take: This is not intended to be a knock on the Pioneer Football League, which will send Valparaiso to Hanover next month, but suffice it to say this ranking is way, way out on an island regarding the PFL. For as much as the Patriot is struggling, 10 times out of 10 I'll take the Patriot over the PFL. And while I'm not a fan of the Ivies scheduling the Northeast, the NEC should easily jump the Pioneer as well.

OK, as long as I'm on the Versus Sports Simulator page, here are the Ivy League team rankings in the entire FCS (LINK):

17. Dartmouth
20. Princeton
37. Harvard
47. Yale
59. Columbia
103. Penn
109. Cornell
110. Brown

From The Dartmouth comes a piece headlined: Q&A with recently-appointed athletic director Mike Harrity; Mike Harrity, the newly appointed athletic director for the Big Green, sat down to talk about his perspective on the Dartmouth community, how athletics might change at Dartmouth and what the job means to him. (LINK)

Not a lot of news in the piee but it did quote Harrity saying, "I have the good fortune to report directly to President Hanlon."

Green Alert Take: Good to know that's not changing.

And . . .

The D: In the wake of a threatened class action lawsuit following the elimination of five varsity programs, the athletic department released a Gender Equity Plan in March. What steps will you take to continue building on this plan?

MH: That’s what I have spent the biggest percentage of my time on — understanding and working alongside others to ensure that this Gender Equity Plan is implemented in full.

Green Alert Take: That has to be done, of course, but the hope should be that those problems are cleaned up as quickly as possible and the new AD can get down to the work of rebuilding an athletic program that apart mainly from football and women's rugby is struggling mightily.

The football program's Throwback Thursday posting took a look yesterday at the Big Green's overtime win against Yale last fall. Here are the highlights:

A Valley News story headlined Details emerge on Dartmouth women’s rugby player seriously injured in fall from frat house roof notes that the fall last spring happened at a fraternity house where "Dartmouth football players make up much of the membership," and that two football players gave statements regarding the incident. EXTRA POINT
A little time on the beach people watching before our anniversary dinner last night in Maine was a reminder of something I've thought for a while. Give it a few years and if someone can come up with a way to painlessly and effectively remove tattoos that person is going to be able to buy an island. And I'm not talking one of those little inhabited rocks off the Maine coast.

I'm talking Manhattan Island.

Or maybe Australia ;-)
