Mea Culpa

In the listings posted here recently of former Dartmouth players continuing their careers elsewhere I've left out Seth Simmer '20, a defensive tackle at Samford.

This one is totally on me, although let me explain.

If you count spring of 2021, this is the seventh college football season of some sort since Simmer's freshman fall with the Big Green in 2016. I honestly thought he'd finally used up his eligibility.

Simmer played on the Dartmouth junior varsity in '16 and then missed the '17 season after having a brain tumor removed. Fully recovered from the surgery, he played his first full varsity season at Dartmouth as a junior in 2018 and then had 26 tackles playing in 2019, his true senior season.

Simmer had been granted a medical redshirt to play as a fifth-year senior at Dartmouth in 2020 only to have the Ivy League season canceled. He chose to graduate and enrolled as a grad student at Samford.

With its fall season canceled because of COVID, Samford and Simmer played a seven-game spring season in the 2020-21 school year. He finished with 33 tackles for the 4-3 Bulldogs.

Simmer returned to the field last fall, finishing fourth on the team with 35 tackles including seven for a loss while earning a spot on the All-SoCon second team as Samford went 4-7 overall and 3-5 in conference.

Now back for a final year, Simmer made five tackles last week to help Samford open with a big 27-17 win over Kennesaw State, then-ranked No 8 in the FCS.

The challenge gets much, much, much harder Saturday afternoon when Samford heads between the hedges to face Georgia, ranked No. 2 and we're not talking about the FCS this time!

Last night's BGA Premium posting reported on a second intrasquad scrimmage Thursday that head coach Buddy Teevens graded out as a B-plus. With no practice today, check the site out tonight for a BGA overview of the 2022 Ivy League race (with predictions). Tomorrow's BGA will continue the positional series with a look at the quarterbacks. The series is scheduled to conclude with a look at the offensive line on Sunday – barring an audible ;-)

EXTRA POINT
Working on a project I'm in need of one small but important piece of information that I haven't been able to nail down. I gave it a shot yesterday, hanging around campus for an extra hour hoping to corner someone who had the answer. Back home, I sent an email to no avail yet. I hate calling busy people to bug them, but I may have no choice.

I was tempted to send a link to this 15-second video clip from The Sandlot that ends with a saying I've seen on a few T-shirts that sums things up nicely:
