Crimson Musings

In advance of Saturday's Homecoming game, the Harvard Crimson had a lengthy preview headlined After Consequential Defeat, Harvard Football Hopes for Redemption With Road Clash at Dartmouth (LINK)

Green Alert Take: Harvard always has a target on its back but former Crimson coach Joe Restic really felt that against Dartmouth. I was at a press conference once when he famously said that when the Big Green is playing Harvard, "they secrete something" up here.

Dartmouth offensive lineman Nick Schwitzgebel adds a couple of thoughts to a story in The Dartmouth headlined, Community prepares to celebrate Homecoming traditions; Students and alumni will be able to take part in a number of College traditions this weekend, beginning with the annual bonfire. The school newspaper also has a piece suggesting an alternative to Big Green for a nickname/mascot: The Dartmouth Wendigo. Per the story (LINK):

The Wendigo is a creature from Alogonquian mythology, a combination of the mythologies of several Indingenous tribes along the Atlantic coast (including the Abenaki people, whose land Dartmouth is situated on). It is described in traditional Alogonquian legends as “a giant with a heart of ice,” and is famously likened to “a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave” by the Ojibwe teacher Basil Johnston.

Green Alert Take: My vote still goes to Dartmouth North Stars.

EXTRA POINT
Working remotely for a week at a friend's apartment in Philadelphia between trips to Happy Valley for last week's Whiteout win over Minnesota and Saturday's game against the Ohio State Buckeyes, That Certain Nittany Lion '16 is trying to make the most of his Philly experience. He's had a cheesesteak or three, grabbed Tastykake Krimpets at the Wawa, scored a ticket to the National League pennant clincher down in South Philly, checked out the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, and he's going to catch a Flyers game tonight. But this morning might have been his pièce de résistance in the City of Brotherly Love. He sent along a photo of the pork roll sandwich he was eating for breakfast on the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
