The Dartmouth has a story headlined Big Green football content with students’ support for the sport despite alumni concerns (LINK).

I did a little digging and found the Homecoming attendance 10, 20, 30 and 40 years ago:

1982 vs. Harvard – 17,416
1992 vs. Yale – 13,017
2002 vs. Harvard – 8,102
2012 vs. Harvard – 10,138

Last year?
2021 – vs. Yale – 8,796

True story. When I worked in Dartmouth Sports Information in the early '80s we were instructed never to use the expession Dartmouth Homecoming. We were to refer to the celebration as Dartmouth Night and Dartmouth Night Weekend.

Homecoming was for other colleges. Dartmouth alumni, we were told in absolutely no uncertain terms, were always welcome to come home to Dartmouth.

EXTRA POINT
I wrote in this space a couple of days ago about potentially replacing my well-used "early 2015" MacBook Air before long. That isn't the last technological advancement under consideration here at our Vermont hillside home.

Our closest neighbor, who spends most of the year at his home on Cape Cod, monitors this place while he's away with all kinds of connected electronic gizmos that require fast and dependable internet service. He knows his way around this stuff and recently installed a Starlink antenna for satellite internet service. I haven't had a chance to ask him about it yet, but I'm curious.

While we've come a long way since dial-up and then a radio receiver off Moose Mountain when we lived across the river, our service here isn't exactly blazing. This is a "speed" test this morning:
