Coach T In The News

There's nothing particularly new in a Washington Post opinion piece with Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens headlined Here’s one way to make football safer but hey, it spreads the word on efforts to reduce injuries in the game while getting the Dartmouth name out there. (LINK)

What were the chances that when journalist David Shribman '76 was writing a piece headlined Lessons from a captured CIA officer  who 70 years ago "found himself strapped inside a C-47 aircraft over Manchuria on a top-secret mission when everything started to go wrong," that one of his sources for insights to the man would come from Buddy Teevens? Find the story HERE.

In case you missed this during the holiday week I meant to repost it here yesterday because Monday is the busiest day for BGA Daily hits. A big thank you to those of you have clicked through to help Dartmouth offensive lineman Josh Balara '24 and his family as he fights cancer, but the GoFundMe effort is still far short of its goal. Learn a little more about Josh in his Dartmouth bio HERE, and then consider helping out HERE.

In this video from a few weeks ago former Dartmouth linebacker Flo Orimolade '17 reflected on playing as many games this fall as he was able to play because of injury in his first four years with the CFL's Calgary Stampeders. Orimolade was the 2016 Bushnell winner as the Ivy League defensive player of the year. This year's Bushnell finalists on both sides of the ball are being announced later today.

EXTRA POINT
For years the first Christmas card we've received has always come from an old high school buddy now living in Florida. Sure enough, the card from "Bill Wheat" was in our box yesterday. Ah, but so was another from a Dartmouth friend now living in Texas. Do we have a contender for first-in?

Because we were in Happy Valley over the weekend we didn't pick up our mail Friday or Saturday so there's no way of knowing if one card arrived a day ahead of the other. Because the envelope from Texas was postmarked Nov. 21 and the envelope from Florida was postmarked Nov. 22 I suppose that gives Texas the edge. But Florida is closer so maybe it made up for lost time?

Because we picked them up on the same day I'm going to call it a tie, meaning "Wheat's" streak remains intact.

Two things. "Wheat" got his nicknamed because when we were kids Bob Hayes was the "world's fastest human." We called our buddy Bill Wheat because he was the world's slowest. Now that I think of it, I believe he gave himself that nickname and it was fitting.

And second, don't look for our Christmas card any time soon. In fact, don't look for it before Christmas. We'll try, but you know how it is. ;-)
