Surprise! Something other than transfer portal news (although to be honest it's about someone who went into the portal last year ;-).

In case it's hard to read, this is what Jalen wrote:
My football career up until this point has been nothing short of a blessing. My time in college has allowed me to develop into the man that I am proud to be today. I am forever indebted to both God and my parents for their unconditional love and support. Without them none of this would be possible.
I have made unbelievable friends and mentors, who have made my collegiate experience unforgettable. Thank you Dartmouth, I will forever bleed green. Thank you UMass for accepting me into your family in such a short time.
With that being said, I would like to announce that I will be pursuing my dreams and entering my name into the NFL Draft.
Find a story HERE that includes this:
With the Minutemen, the UMass middle linebacker led the team with 100 tackles this past season (38 solo) while adding 3.5 sacks and 15.0 tackles for loss. He had a season-high seven solo tackles in the season opener at Tulane. Mackie, who is from Miramar, Florida, closed out the season with 21 tackles against Army (six solo) including two TFL’s.

Now, I didn't promise there wouldn't be any transfer portal news, right?
The latest is offensive lineman Michael Flores adding (Coach Prime-less) Jackson State to an offer sheet that already featured Marshall, Miami (Ohio), UMass, Morehead State, Butler and University of San Diego. He also has Tweeted preferred walk-on offers at Vanderbilt and Colorado.

EXTRA POINT
As often seems to be the case around the holidays, we needed a few fresh batteries a couple of days ago, in this case for a cookie spritzer that wasn't playing nicely. Rooting around in the BGA World Headquarters, I found a few lightly used AA batteries and checked them out on an old Radio Shack battery tester. Turns out they didn't have quite enough juice left.
Too bad the spritzer didn't use nine-volt batteries. Sitting on a shelf here are no fewer than five brand new nine-volt batteries. If you are old enough you surely remember snapping those into transistor radios, walkie-talkies and remote control cars. Thanks in no small part to USB recharging, nine-volt batteries these days don't do much more than collect dust – although I'll be very glad I have a few around the next time one of our smoke detectors starts to chirp.
