Dartmouth football alums went one-for-two on championship Saturday in Ohio.
Offensive lineman Matt Kaskey '19 and the Birmingham Stallions won the USFL championship over the Pittsburgh Maulers, 28-12, in an entertaining contest in Canton.
Quarterback/receiver Jared Gerbino '20, was less fortunate as his Firenze Guelfi team dropped the Italian Bowl championship to the Parma Panthers in Toledo, 29-13.

Kaskey went the whole way at right tackle for the Stallions, who won the USFL title for the second year in a row. He's No. 63 in the highlight package below and if you focus in on him you'll see some excellent blocking including a pancake or two:
Gerbino, who played receiver and QB, added a score for Florence on a 1-yard run with 1:48 to go. The former two-time second team All-Ivy League quarterback from Dartmouth said this would be his final football game as a player.“I personally don't think I played well, and I don't think anybody on our team feels like they played well,” said Gerbino, who rushed nine times for 38 yards and two touchdowns and caught six passes for 65 yards. “It was one of those days when things weren't going your way. It's football. It's life. It happens in life.“Obviously we're upset it didn't turn out the way we wanted it to, but Parma deserved it. Congratulations to them.”

Let's get something clear from the start. In today's college football schools rarely, if ever, assign "Homecoming" to a cupcake opponent in order to dial up a win for alumni coming back to campus. Visiting coaches looking to fire up their team may try to convince their players otherwise, but it's simply not the way it works anymore. That's usually a decision made outside of athletics.
So what to make of Harvard announcing that Dartmouth will be its Homecoming/Fall Fest opponent on Oct. 28? Not much more than it should guarantee a good crowd that will be sure to fire up both teams. (Not that either will need it. ;-)
For what it's worth, they are celebrating "150 years of Harvard Football" all season down in Cambridge, where the Crimson will play six games for the first time since 2012. Find a release about that HERE.

Why post a link to a story headlined, Four-star WR Isiah Canion decommits from Notre Dame? Because it contains this note (LINK):
He committed to Notre Dame over offers from Florida State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Duke, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Dartmouth and others.

EXTRA POINT
Well, any hope that smoke from the Canadian wildfires was going to disappear before it made its way here yesterday disappeared – like our usually gorgeous view of Mount Moosilauke.
It's raining again here today and that's supposed to knock down some of the smoke. Here's hoping rain across the border knocks down some or all of the fire.
