The Last Five

I have my desk raised to the standing position, something I do every year at this time while I research everything I need to know for my annual opponent preview series for BGA Premium. Saves my back while I spend way too many hours trying to build up a dossier on each team. That series is slated to begin one month from today yesterday.

Here's a look at part of the charts I'm working on. This is how Ivy League teams have fared over the past five seasons:

Green Alert Take: Did you ever think you would see the day when Columbia's five-year record would top that of Harvard and Penn?

The New York Times is shutting down its sports desk and will lean on The Athletic, which it owns, to provide sports coverage.

Green Alert Take: In my early days around the Dartmouth football program the late William Wallace (Yale '45) covered Ivy League football and would show up at the occasional Big Green game. He was an irascible sort at the tail end of his career, but it was always special to have the Times in the press box. The sports section of the "paper of record" will be missed, even if it has been AWOL around the Ancient Eight since the Wallace closed up shop.

EXTRA POINT
With our Vermont hillside home 1,000 feet above the Connecticut River we had no flooding problems yesterday, but you didn't have to go far to see the devastation. The second clip below (from the Vermont state police) is from Quechee, where many Dartmouth folks have visited the Simon Pearce glass shop and restaurant overlooking the Ottauquechee River.
