Broadcast News

If you follow Dartmouth football and don't subscribe to ESPN+ but do have NESN (New England Sports Network) you are in luck. The college announced yesterday that the Oct. 7 1:30 game against Yale and the Oct. 21 Homecoming game against Columbia will both be carried by the network from Memorial Field. The Dartmouth-Harvard game in Cambridge on Oct. 28 had previously been announced as appearing on NESN. Find a story HERE.

If you do have ESPN+ but don't have NESN, worry not. The games will still be carried on ESPN+.

As a couple of Dartmouth grads have found out, the NFL can be cruel. Offensive tackle Matt Kaskey '19 was waived yesterday by the Los Angeles Chargers and center Jake Guidone '21 was released by the Baltimore Ravens. Both impressed, but with teams carrying as many as 90 players during camp and having to get to 53 today it's very hard for a free agent to stick.

Ravens Wire carried a short story about Guidone that included this (LINK):

A versatile offensive guard who could return to the practice squad, Guidone started his college career at Dartmouth, playing on two Ivy League championship teams.

The 6-foot-3, 299-pound Guidone transferred to Connecticut, where he played all 13 games in 2022 as a graduate transfer.

From a posting about Kaskey being waived (LINK):

The #Chargers have waived/injured OT Matt Kaskey, per sources. Kaskey played 34 snaps in the preseason without allowing a sack

Still awaiting his fate – if he hasn't learned it yet – is New Orleans Saints defensive end Niko Lalos '20. From a Saints SI opinion piece after Sunday's game against the Texans (LINK):

Lalos has simply been a consistent playmaker and disruptive force for the Saints in all three preseason games. Against Houston, he had one sack and set up two others while recording two tackles for loss. Lalos will probably be on the outside looking in at a loaded defensive end position. It would be a surprise if he made the final cut, as much as he's earned it, but would be terrific practice squad insurance if not snapped up by someone else.

From a release out of Stanford (Italics are mine):

A gift from a family of former student-athletes will help promote student-athlete well-being on The Farm. Kevin Anderson, '16, MS '16, together with his brothers Michael and Jack, have endowed Stanford Athletics' director of sport psychology position. Dr. Kelli Moran-Miller will be the inaugural Anderson Brothers Director of Sport Psychology.

Kevin Anderson was a Stanford football student-athlete from 2011-2015, playing at linebacker. During his time on the Farm he played in one Fiesta Bowl and three Rose Bowls, serving as captain during the Cardinal's 2016 Rose Bowl victory. In addition, he received both a bachelor's and a master's degree in civil engineering. He is now a project manager for Anderson Pacific Engineering Construction, Inc., a general contracting firm located in the Silicon Valley, and an MBA candidate at the London Business School.

Michael Anderson played football at Yale University and graduated in 2013. He currently serves as the co-founder of Framework Ventures, a venture capital firm that invests in products and services to enable blockchain technologies. Jack Anderson graduated from Dartmouth College in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in history and also played football during college. He later went on to receive his MBA from Durham University and is now a financial analyst for Dolby Laboratories

EXTRA POINT

Mrs. BGA and I went to see Oppenheimer at the Nugget Theater in Hanover last night and of course when we came outside it was raining. Again.

Combine the heavy rain, the faded lines on the road and some streaking on the windshield and it wasn't a fun drive home.

It was also a reminder that the time has come for me to apply more Rain-X to my windshield.

Regular visitors to the PAT know I'm an absolutely huge Rain-X fanboy, so much so that if BGA Daily had a large enough readership for me to be labeled an "influencer" the company would be sending me a carton or two of the stuff for promoting it. That's not gonna happen, of course, but if anyone from Rain-X happens to reading this I'll gladly send along a street address for you. ;-)
