Another Alumni Day

Here's Flo Orimolade '17 with his seventh sack for the Toronto Argonauts and it's a thing of beauty:

#

It's not just how he performs in camp that has the media flocking to interview Shane Cokes '23:

#

From a BC Eagles story headlined, Smart and Surgical Defensive Backfield Rounding Into Form (LINK):

"John Pupel is a guy," (head coach Jeff) Hafley said. "He's a really good football player. He's tough. He's instinctive. He keeps finding the football. He's really smart. That guy, when we talk about a safety, you can get a team lined up against him, but he can run. He's probably one of the biggest surprises for me."

Pupel '22, is in his second year as a grad transfer at Boston College.

Niko Lalos '20 had yet another sack last night for the New Orleans Saints. He has four of the team's 10 sacks in the preseason. No one else on the roster has more than one.

#

Lalos, center Jake Guidone '21 of the Baltimore Ravens and offensive tackle Matt Kaskey '19 of the Los Angeles Chargers and everyone else trying to make an NFL roster who hasn't yet learned their fate will find out no later than 4 p.m. tomorrow. From a story explaining the NFL cut policy this year (LINK):

In previous years, there were cutdown days after every preseason week to gradually trim rosters down from 90 to 53. That rule changed for 2023, as there's now just one date when teams must get to 53 players: Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Players can be traded or cut before Aug. 29, but there is no rule requiring teams to gradually make moves anymore. A team could theoretically carry 90 players throughout the entire preseason -- but it would then have to cut 37 players on the cut day.

EXTRA POINT

Driving to practice yesterday I was listening to a podcast that included a mention of a restauranteur in New Jersey trying to get the rights to the expression Taco Tuesday, which he said he came up with in 1979.

That got me thinking about That Certain Nittany Lion '16 and how amazed he is about some of the now common foods that Mrs. BGA and I tell him weren't common when we were kids. Like yogurt. Avocados. Tacos and tortillas. Thai food. Cookie dough ice cream. Tofu. Heck, even bagels were uncommon in our neighborhoods when we were really young. OK, so maybe we didn't have all of those things, but we did have fish sticks!
