Charting The Big Green, Part One

It's time for our annual BGA look at the Dartmouth roster to see what players have moved on from last fall, who is returning this season and what freshmen are arriving later this month. Important note: The chart below detailing the offense is entirely based on the 2023 Big Green roster posted on the official program website and is certainly subject to change. Tomorrow's post will be about the defense and Monday's will detail special teams.

Breaking news out of Columbia last night under the headline Al Bagnoli Announces Retirement from Coaching. From the story (LINK):

"After undergoing a heart procedure (aortic dissection) in February, and in consultation with my family, doctors and coaching staff, I have decided this is the right time for me to retire from coaching," Bagnoli stated. "This was a difficult decision but the right one for me and the program. I had every intention to get through this season, but after going through the recovery process, I realized the grind of the Ivy League season would be a lot to go through at this stage of my life. I am proud of what we were able to accomplish here and know we are in a place where we can continue to have success. Columbia has been a great home for the past eight years. I look forward to transitioning into this new role and helping the football program and athletics department build for the future."

Bagnoli was on the Columbia sidelines for seven season seasons (eight years counting COVID) and prior to that coached at Penn from 1992-2014. Stepping in as interim coach for 2023 is Columbia offensive coordinator Mark Fabish, a former All-Ivy League receiver under Bagnoli at Penn.

With Bagnoli stepping down and Dartmouth's Buddy Teevens unable to coach as a result of his accident, the Ivy League will be without two of the longest-tenured coaches. The dean of Ivy coaches now is Tim Murphy, who has been at Harvard since 1994.

First season for current Ivy League coaches:
1994 Tim Murphy, Harvard
2010 Bob Surace, Princeton
2012 Tony Reno, Yale
2013 David Archer, Cornell
2015 Ray Priore, Penn
2019 James Perry, Brown
2023 Sammy McCorkle, Dartmouth (interim)
2023 Mark Fabish, Columbia (interim)

EXTRA POINT

Yesterday we toured Saint-Gaudens National Historic Park in Cornish, N.H., about a half hour south of Dartmouth. Today we'll be taking the cog railway to the top of Mount Washington before capping off That Certain BGA Brother's whirlwind visit from southern Indiana with pizza night on a working Vermont farm.
